Multi-million dollar announcement to advance research in London

Please join the Honourable Deb Matthews, MPP London North Centre, for the announcement of the 2013 Ontario Research Fund grants coming to Western University and Lawson Health Research Institute. This significant investment will have a major economic impact on research in London. The announcement will take place Friday, December 13 at 9:30 a.m. in the Robarts Research Institute Atrium at Western.

The six projects being funded will tackle health issues from hearing loss to cancer to bone disorders, with a heavy emphasis on developing better imaging tools to detect and monitor illness. Another of the projects will delve into the migration of birds; knowledge which will play an important role in the development of sound policies around land use and green energy initiatives.

Following the announcement, media are invited to join Deb Matthews and Robarts scientist David Holdsworth to see Western’s new 3D printer, the only one at a Canadian university able to use medical grade metal. It’s an example of how ORF funds are being utilized to further research aimed at building better joint replacements.
