Developed by London-based DivergentSoft Technolgy Group Inc.,  a firm owned by three Western Engineering graduates, the new WesternU Mobile app features up-to-date transit information, improved maps, detailed locations of all eateries on campus, and access to academic tools and information.
“The new app is based on feedback and user statistics from our old app and is focused on helping those who access our campus make the most of their experience,” said Terry Rice, Director of Marketing and Creative Services at Western. “Mobile-friendly communications is a particularly important component of student life and we’re meeting this need head on.”
In focus groups students requested mobile access to OWL, Western’s web teaching tool. This new feature allows students to access assignments, read forums, and stay up to date on academic projects.
“By leveraging more dynamic data we’ve been able to provide users with real-time information that can simplify how they interact with Western,” said Martin Douglas at Western’s Information Technology Services.
A new eateries module shows locations that are open and closest to users on the move. The bus schedule module lists Western-specific bus routes as well as bus routes for the entire City of London. The campus map can now be viewed in four different ways – academic buildings, parking, residence buildings and service buildings. – and a GPS-based Google map application will help users find academic and support services buildings as well as key parking lots.
The app also features event listings and campus news, as well as access to Western Libraries and student services such as Safe Campus and Mental Health support. Users can also follow the Western Mustangs, get the latest scores, news, schedules and buy tickets.
Western is decommissioning its old iWestern mobile app and is recommending that users uninstall the old app and replace it with the new WesternU Mobile. The app is available through iTunes and the Google Play store for Android devices.
