M. Karen Campbell appointed Western’s Vice-Provost (Academic Planning, Policy & Faculty)

M. Karen Campbell has been appointed to a four-year term as Vice-Provost (Academic Planning, Policy & Faculty) effective July 1, 2016, and ending June 30, 2020.

From September 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016, Campbell will serve as Special Advisor to the Provost and as Vice-Provost-Elect, working closely with Alan Weedon during the final year of his term as Vice-Provost.

Having served as Chair of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry since 2003, Campbell has also taught and conducted research as a Professor within the Departments of Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Paediatrics. Campbell is also affiliated with the Children’s Health Research Institute in her role as a scientist.

Since joining Western as a faculty member in 1986, Campbell’s research interests have focused on prenatal health, prenatal influences on child health and development, childhood obesity, prenatal and postnatal health services utilization, and trajectories of maternal mental health, and she has been the primary thesis supervisor for 40 masters and doctoral candidates during her career.

Campbell has been recognized for teaching excellence and as a Fellow in the American College of Epidemiology for significant and sustained contributions to her field.
