Western University’s Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (CCAA), in consultation with London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), is pleased to have developed new fitness opportunities at the CCAA as a meaningful option for members of LHSC’s Cardiac Fitness Institute (CFI), which is slated to close on April 27, 2018.

“This opportunity for current CFI members has been months in the making and everyone at the CCAA is incredibly excited for what’s to come in terms of programming, growth and continued research excellence,” says Clara Fitzgerald, CCAA Program Director. “CCAA is a natural fit for existing CFI members and we can’t wait to welcome them all to the CCAA.”

The CCAA, based in Western’s Faculty of Health Sciences, is Canada’s leader in current research and program development for improved physical ability and healthy aging for older adults. The CCAA will continue to offer its current schedule of classes and will be adding new ones specifically targeted to cardiovascular health. Dates and times for these new classes will be communicated once they are built into the schedule.

In addition to these new classes, which will be available to all CCAA members, this arrangement also includes LHSC donating treadmills, exercise bikes, weight training equipment and stress test units to the CCAA. This provides all current and future CCAA members with more options for pursuing their health and fitness goals.

“Since LHSC announced the closure of the CFI, we have been working closely with representatives of the CFI’s Patient Advisory Committee to help find appropriate fitness options in the community. This opportunity with the CCAA represents the results of that collaborative work and we are very pleased to have established a positive option for CFI members,” says Dr. Paul Woods, President and CEO of London Health Sciences Centre.
