For the 11th year running, Western University will host Indigenous youth from across Southwestern Ontario for its annual Track and Field Day on February 17 at Thompson Recreation and Athletic Centre.

Nearly 200 Indigenous youth, ages 12-14, are expected to attend the event facilitated by Western’s Indigenous Services, in partnership with Sports and Recreation Services, both part of Western’s Student Experience portfolio.

Track and Field Day gives students the opportunity to experience Western’s campus, tour the athletic facilities, meet current Indigenous students, and take part in track and field activities facilitated by Western Mustang varsity athletes.

This year’s activities will include shot put, high jump, relay racing, triple jump, long jump, and more, and seeks to foster healthy living for local Indigenous youth. The event is one part of Western’s Youth Outreach Program, which includes Mini-University in July and Indigenous Awareness Week, March 7-13, 2016.
