Western to welcome the world for global conference of international guidance counsellors and admissions professionals

Western University announced today it will host more than 1,600 delegates from over 80 countries at the global conference of the International Association for College Admission Counseling (International ACAC) July 9-12, 2019.

Rarely held in Canada, this signature conference for international education professionals brings collaborators from around the world to discuss global education with a focus on the transition process from secondary to higher education. Three days of professional development as well as pre- and post-conference events will include experts in international education, panel presentations, workshops and sharing of best practices in supporting students who seek postsecondary education outside of their home country.

“Hosting the International Association for College Admission Counseling annual conference is a fantastic way to showcase the beautiful campus, talented faculties and internationalization efforts of Western University,” said Becky Konowicz, President-Elect, International ACAC and Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Admissions at Santa Clara University, California.

“With a growing conference size, Western University’s campus and location in London, Ontario provides the facilities and resources to comfortably host on- and off-campus the 1,600 members who will travel here next July. We know they will enjoy Canadian hospitality and learn about the excellent university options in the Ontario region, while networking and learning about current issues and trends in international postsecondary counselling.”

“Western looks forward to welcoming our global partners in international education at the 2019 International ACAC Conference,” said Western’s President Amit Chakma.

“As counsellors and admissions professionals, these people play essential roles in helping world’s brightest students discover their learning and career paths. We are honoured they have chosen to come to Western to share their insights and experiences and improve support for students who are pursuing a global education.”

“On behalf of London, we are so pleased to welcome the International Association for College Admission Counseling. We are proud of our post-secondary institutions. These institutions help cultivate growth and inspire the next generation,” said London Mayor Matt Brown. “Hosting conferences such as this is not only beneficial to our schools and attendees, but for all of London. It puts London on the map internationally, benefits our area restaurants and shops and is an economic driver in our community. We hope that you enjoy our unique local experience where you will find no place else.”

International ACAC was founded in 1991 as the Overseas Association for College Admission Counseling and is affiliated with the US-based National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).
