As more than 12,000 Western University alumni descend on London this weekend (September 27-30) for Homecoming 2012, businesses along Richmond Row are painting the town purple for returning graduates in the form of balloon bouquets and stylized signage.
Media are invited to attend a special kickoff event on Wednesday, September 26th at 3 p.m. Marble Slab Creamery (573-A Richmond Street) where representatives from Western Alumni, the University Students’ Council (USC) and the Mustangs Cheerleaders will be scooping savoury samples of “Proudly Purple” ice cream in anticipation of the forthcoming Homecoming festivities.
Highlights of Homecoming 2012 include:
38th Annual Alumni Awards Dinner (Friday, September 28th)
Western honours exceptional alumni, including Agnes Chan (BA’81), Dr. John C. Roder (PH.D’77), Towhid Noman (BSc’90) and Carolyn Lawrence (BA’00), at a gala dinner hosted by President Amit Chakma.
ASB 10-Year Celebration (Saturday, September 29th)
More than 1,000 Alternative Spring Break (ASB) participants have been the change around the world since 2003. The incredible stories of these service learners will be celebrated at this special event.
Got Brains on the Mind (Sunday, September 30th)
Bob McDonald, host of CBC’s “Quirks and Quarks,” hosts a panel discussion with Western’s world renowned brain and mind researchers, including Western Education Dean Vicki Schwean, Don Wright Faculty of Music Dean Betty Anne Younker, Adrian Owen and Mel Goodale of the Brain and Mind Institute and Christopher Viger of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy.
