Former Prime Minister and National Chief headline Indigenous Education Summit

The summit, titled Promoting Successful Transitions, brings together community members, educators, policy makers, employers, students and researchers to promote dialogue, share knowledge and build networks for future collaboration.

The Right Honourable Paul Martin, Canada’s 21st Prime Minister, will deliver the opening remarks at the Indigenous Education Summit, a two-day event (Oct. 4-5) at Queen’s Landing in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. dedicated to bettering educational pathways for Indigenous learners.

National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo, National Chief to the Assembly of First Nations will deliver closing remarks and share his vision for supporting and enabling the success of every First Nation on the basis of their rights and responsibilities.

Mary Simon, Past President of the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) and current Chair of the National Committee on Inuit Education, will play an active role, addressing attendees, presenting at a breakout session and leading a working group during the summit.

Gary Lipinski, President of Metis Nation of Ontario, will offer his unique insight as he addresses attendees during the dinner Thursday night.

The summit, titled Promoting Successful Transitions, brings together community members, educators, policy makers, employers, students and researchers to promote dialogue, share knowledge and build networks for future collaboration. Promoting Successful Transitions will stress successful models to encourage sharing of best practices.

Facilitated by the Western University’s Aboriginal Policy Research Consortium and Academica Group, in partnership with the Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative (MAEI) and the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian, summit speakers include:
