Western’s 8th annual Go ENG Girl event to be a hair-raising experience

Female students in Grades 7-10 are invited to explore the exciting world of engineering at Go ENG Girl, a province-wide, free one-day workshop full of fun hands-on activities for the girls and information sessions for parents.

Western’s event will feature two workshops.  Grade 7 and 8 girls will build whirling windmills that can withstand high winds (i.e. a hair dryer) while girls in Grades 9 and 10 will build a rollercoaster that is stable and fast. The challenge will be to keep a marble on the track as it travels through loops, jumps and extreme drops.

“Go ENG Girl is a fun opportunity for girls to meet others who share similar interests,” explains Lesley Mounteer, Western Engineering’s associate director (external services) and Western Go ENG Girl co-chair. “We have been participating in this province-wide event for eight years now and every year we are thrilled to see interest grow.”

More than 1,000 girls are expected to participate in Go ENG Girl at 11 locations across Ontario. Western anticipates 75 girls, and their parents/guardians, will attend the event in London on Saturday, Oct. 13.
