TIME CHANGE: Unique dental suite opens at Schulich Dentistry on January 14

What: Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry announces a new era in dental training and patient care, with the official opening of its general anaesthetic (GA) suite, the only one of its kind in a dental school in North America.

When: Tuesday, January 14, 2014, 1:15 p.m.

Where: Western University’s Schulich Medicine & Dentistry.  The GS suite is located just off the main adult dental clinic.  Please go to the clinic’s reception area, where you will be directed to the GA suite.  The clinic can be accessed from the walkway off the dental parking lot, across from the Social Sciences parking lot. Who: The Honourable Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and Dr. Christopher Mackie, Medical Officer of Health, Middlesex-London Health Unit will join Dr. Michael Strong, dean, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, and Dr. Harinder Sandhu, vice-dean and director, Schulich Dentistry, for the opening.

Why: The GA suite allows the School’s dental clinic program to expand its scope of services for patients with physical and/or intellectual challenges, as well as for children covered under the “Healthy Smiles Ontario” program.  The two million dollar suite features two operating rooms and six recovery bays, and at full capacity, can accommodate up to 60 patients a week.  This will ease the burden on the region’s hospitals where wait times for dental procedures can be up to 18 months long.
