Just one day after the NHL Trade Deadline, Brian Burke, President of Hockey Operations for the Calgary Flames, will be coming to London to speak to Western University students about working in the highly competitive sports industry.

The event, scheduled for Thursday, March 6, is hosted by the Western Sport Business Club and will be held in the BMO Financial Group Auditorium at Ivey Business School from 2 to 4 p.m.

Tickets are $7 online or $10 at the door. Dress is business casual. Ticket proceeds will be donated to the You Can Play Project, a charity created in honour of Burke’s late son Brendan and co-founded by his son Patrick. You Can Play is dedicated to ensuring equality, respect, and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation.

Prior to his current position with the Flames, Burke was president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Anaheim Ducks and Vancouver Canucks. Burke has served as general manager for the U.S. Men’s National Ice Hockey Team on three occasions and director of player personnel for the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team in Sochi.

Burke is expected to speak for 45 minutes about his experiences in the various leadership roles he has held before opening up the floor to a 60-minute Q&A period.
