Former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson to speak on human rights at Western

The Right Hon. Adrienne Clarkson, former Governor General of Canada, will deliver the 2014 Claude & Elaine Pensa Lecture on Human Rights at Western University on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Rm. 38, Faculty of Law Building.

Adrienne Clarkson, who has actively promoted tolerance, acceptance, belonging and public responsibility in her tenure as Governor General (1999-2005), and as a broadcaster, writer, diplomat and cultural champion, will present “Knowing The Other: The Basis of Human Rights” at the free public lecture.

Her work has been recognized with dozens of awards in Canada, the United States and Europe, including 26 honorary doctorates.

In 2007, she became Colonel-in-Chief of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, the first Canadian to be Colonel-in-Chief of a Canadian regiment.

The Claude and Elaine Pensa Lecture in Human Rights at Western Law was established in 2006 through a generous gift by the London law firm of Harrison Pensa LLP.
