Western Engineering students to benefit from major Siemens PLM Software grant

Western University will now use the same technology in its Faculty of Engineering classrooms that businesses around the world employ to design some of today’s most sophisticated products thanks to an in-kind software grant from Siemens PLM Software. The new academic partnership was announced earlier today.

Siemens PLM Software is a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services for a wide variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, machinery, medical devices, shipbuilding and electronics.

By utilizing Siemens PLM Software for course work, research and other academic studies, Western Engineering students will develop the advanced skills required by the more than 77,000 global customers who already utilize Siemens’ software and technology solutions, including 29 of the world’s top 30 automakers.

This in-kind grant for Western includes Siemens PLM Software’s NX software, a leading integrated solution for computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering. The commercial value of the in-kind software grant is $522,039,200.

“Siemens PLM Software is committed to providing students with the opportunity to learn on the PLM tools used by many leading manufacturers and technology companies. Through our academic partnership with Western University, we are empowering the next generation of engineers,” says Dora Smith, Global Director, Academic Partner Program, Siemens PLM Software.

Western Engineering Dean Andrew Hrymak is pleased to partner with a global corporation that is on the leading edge of PLM technology.

“This partnership enables us to meet the needs of employers while preparing our students for a variety of STEM-related careers,” says Hrymak. “Our students will gain real-world experience during their studies by using the same technology in the classroom that is used by companies all over the world.”

London, Ont.-based Longterm Technology Services Inc., a Siemens Channel Partner, worked closely with Western and Siemens PLM Software on this landmark partnership.
