Adrian Owen, Canadian Excellence Research Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience and Imaging at Western University, has demonstrated that functional neuroimaging can be used to detect awareness in patients previously thought to be in a vegetative, non-aware state.
Western University’s Adrian Owen provided expert analysis to award-winning science writer Kate Lunau for her long-form, feature story about the “shocking” recovery of a patient in a vegetative state, which was published by Maclean’s on December 31, 2015.
Owen is the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Cognitive Neuroscience and Imaging and a principal investigator at Western’s world renowned Brain and Mind Institute.
