Western University alumni around the world are joining together today to celebrate Founder’s Day and all their Western connections.
Founder’s Day is celebrated each year by Western alumni, students, faculty and staff on March 7 – the anniversary of the University’s founding in 1878. The Western community proudly wears purple in honour and recognition of the contributions of Western’s founders and accomplishments of students, staff, faculty and alumni.
Spearheaded by Western’s Alumni Association, more than 20 events are being held across Canada and around the globe in places such as Hong Kong, Poland, the United Kingdom, United States and Vietnam.
“Founder’s Day is a day of pride for more than 277,000 Western alumni around the world who come together to share and celebrate their connections to Western,” said Western President Amit Chakma. “We also celebrate the accomplishments of our alumni who continue to demonstrate excellence and leadership in a broad range of fields worldwide.”
Western alumni who are not able to attend an event can join in the celebrations from wherever they may be in the world – by donning their Western gear and sharing selfies via Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the tag #since1878.
