A team of assessors from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) will arrive on April 24 to examine all aspects of Western University’s Campus Community Police Services (CCPS) policy and procedures, management, operation, and support services.
Verification by the team that CCPS meets IACLEA’s high standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of campus public safety professional excellence. CCPS has to comply with 208 standards, in order to achieve accredited status, according to CCPS Director John Carson.
“IACLEA accreditation demonstrates our commitment to excellence in public safety,” says Director Carson.
University members, agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling 519-661-3400 on April 25 between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.
Telephone comments must address the department’s ability to comply with IACLEA’s standards. The IACLEA Accreditation Standards Manual is available on the IACLEA website (www.iaclea.org).
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Campus Police’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to IACLEA Accreditation, 342 North Main Street, West Hartford, CT 06117-2507.
The Accreditation Manager for CCPS is Sgt. Bob McCormick. According to Sgt. McCormick, the Assessment Team is composed of experienced campus law enforcement professionals. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and inspect facilities where compliance can be witnessed. The assessors are Assistant Chief Raymond A. Bouchard (Ret.), Team Leader and Chief Gerald W. Schoenle, Jr. Once the assessors complete their review of the department, they will report back to IACLEA, which will then decide if the department is to be granted accredited status.
Accreditation is for four (4) years, during which the department must submit annual reports attesting to continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
