Emily Lalone is a rising star at Western University and the lifelong mobility expert will share her personal journey of academic excellence and her latest biomedicine and imaging discoveries as a keynote speaker at the Inspiring Young Women in STEM (IYWSTEM) Conference on Sunday, March 4.

Lalone, a Western Engineering professor and a principal investigator at Western’s Bone and Joint Institute, will be joined by the following keynote speakers at the day-long event, which aims to inspire, engage, and empower young women who are considering a career in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

Claudette Critchley, Western alumna and Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer at Big Blue Bubble – a pioneer in the mobile gaming industry that has developed more than 100 video games since 2004.

Savita Dhanvantari, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry professor and Imaging Scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute – one of Canada’s top 10 health research institutes committed to furthering scientific knowledge to advance health care around the world.

Lisa Saksida, Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Translational Cognitive Neuroscience, principal investigator at Western’s Brain and Mind Institute and Scientific Director of BrainsCAN – Western’s $66M Canada First Research Excellence Fund program in cognitive neuroscience.

Kate Young, London West MP and Parliamentary Secretary for Science, will provide the opening keynote address at 9:30 a.m. at Western’s Somerville House.

IYWSTEM runs throughout the day until 5 p.m. in Western’s Great Hall and includes an industry fair, a STEM Graduate Program Expo and an Undergraduate Poster Competition.
