Western University announced today that it will host the Times Higher Education (THE) Teaching Excellence Summit in 2019 – the first time a THE World Summit Series event has been hosted in Canada.
The Summit is dedicated to discussing teaching, celebrating achievement and exploring how to advance the practice towards greater success and impact in the 21st century. It is attended by higher education leaders, pedagogy innovators, edtech innovators and investors, and government policy-makers from around the world.
“Western is honoured to be hosting THE’s Teaching Excellence Summit in 2019,” said Western’s President Amit Chakma. “In today’s higher education landscape, the only real certainty about the future of teaching and learning is that it will look very different than it does today, and it will be limited only by our imaginations. Western is excited to help play a leadership role in exploring together with global leaders in post-secondary education what that future may hold.”
Taking place at Western June 4-6, 2019, the Summit will be titled Degrees of Change: Forces shaping the teaching and learning of tomorrowand explore themes of providing students educational opportunities beyond their borders; the impact and integration of technology and artificial intelligence on higher education; and the critical role post-secondary institutions must play in building a more inclusive society.
“Teaching is surely the most fundamental role of any university,” said Phil Baty, editorial director, global rankings, Times Higher Education. “We are delighted to be working with Western University on THE’s second annual Teaching Excellence Summit, to help ensure that great, future-proof university teaching secures its place at the very top of the agenda of university leaders around the world.”
The inaugural THE Teaching Excellence Summitis currently taking place at the University of Glasgow from July 10-12, 2018.
