Junior Astronauts touching down at H.B. Beal

The Canadian Space Agency’s Junior Astronauts initiative was launched last year with a goal to engage elementary and secondary school students and get them excited about the cosmos by showcasing different ways they can be involved in and enriched by planetary and space exploration.

Western University was selected to lead the distribution and implementation of the program, and over the past few months have been supporting the CSA in reaching communities across the country to bring the Junior Astronauts initiative to Canadian classrooms.

On Tuesday, January 14th, 100 Grade 9 students at H.B. Beal Secondary School will participate in Junior Astronauts programming. The students will be engaging in a hands-on hovercraft activity, which is one of the Junior Astronauts’ ‘Science and Technology’ stream activities. The other streams are ‘Fitness and Nutrition’ and ‘Teamwork and Communication.’

Students who complete one activity in each stream will be entered in a draw to win a trip to attend a CSA space training camp this summer.
