Western University’s Board of Governors today released its Report of the Governance Review Task Force.
The Task Force was created by the Board in June 2015 in response to issues and concerns about governance that were triggered by decisions with respect to the President’s compensation. The Task Force was asked to look at the full range of governance policies, practices and processes, as well as the relationship of the Board to Senate, the university community, and the wider community external to the university.
The Task Force, chaired by Board member Matthew Wilson, has laid out a series of recommendations to enhance communications between the Board and Senate (Western’s academic governing body), as well as with the campus community. The recommendations also provide the Board more opportunities to hear the range of views among stakeholders and to improve processes to further effective decision making.
“The Task Force met with a large number of stakeholder groups across campus,” said Wilson. “The recommendations reflect the principles of good governance that are intended to help ensure Western succeeds in accomplishing its strategic goals.”
Wilson said the report will be presented to the Board of Governors for approval at its Nov. 26 meeting.
