With the U.S. Presidential Election just around the corner, a leading expert on American politics from Western University is available to media for comment on
Democratic Nominee Joe Biden’s selection of California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate for 2020.
Matthew Lebo, the Chair of Western’s Department of Political Science, is available to comment on Biden’s decision and how Kamala Harris might affect the campaign.
Lebo, who previously served as Chair of the Department of Political Science and Director of the Center for Behavioral Political Economy at Stony Brook University (New York), is an expert on the presidency, political parties, elections and Congress.
His book on the state of party politics in the United States, Strategic Party Government: Why Winning Trumps Ideology, written with Greg Koger, was published in 2017.
Lebo says:
“In making the decision, Biden had to consider which Vice Presidential candidate would both help him win this election and, if he does that, govern for the next four years. Also, a President Biden would be the oldest new president in American history. Thus, there is a good chance that he has also chosen the front-runner for the 2024 Democratic nomination for president.”
Commentary reflects the perspective and scholarly interest of Western faculty members and is not an articulation of official university policy on issues being addressed.
